In our neighborhood a friend started a kid’s Bible study a few months ago. I’ve been helping her out when I can. Last week we watched a cartoon video of David and Goliath. It was very well done and pretty accurate to the scriptures.
Afterwards my friend and I were discussing the video and how good it was and we were talking about why David took 5 stones and only used one. We began doing a search on the Biblical number 5 and found out some interesting things.
Firstly, David took 5 SMOOTH stones out of a brook. In the Bible when water was running water, as opposed to still water, it was called “living water”. Then we found out that 5 is the number of grace and the Word of God (5 books of Moses, and 4 Gospels + Acts). When God changed Abram and Sarai’s names he added the 5th letter of the Hebrew alphabet “Heh” to each of their names: אברהם (Abraham)שרה (Sarah). God added “grace” to their names.
So we could say that David took “grace” out of the “living water” and killed the giant! Or said another way, David took the Word of God out of living water (the Holy Spirit… see John 7) and slew the giant! A good lesson for us all facing giants in our lives!
